People

People is the household's directory of the people you buy for: the household itself, and the family and friends around it. Each person has a page that gathers the three things you keep forgetting at the shop: what size they are, what they wish for, and which gifts are already planned or given. Occasions and birthdays live here too, so Famn can remind you before they arrive.

Open More and tap People.

The directory

The directory has two sections:

  • Household — everyone who is a member of your Space. They appear here by themselves; you do not add them, and you cannot remove them from the directory. Leaving the household removes them.
  • Family and friends — the people you add: grandparents, cousins, a child's best friend, the neighbour you always get a bottle for.

Above the list, Coming up · next 90 days shows the birthdays and occasions closest to today. Use the search field to find a person by name.

Adding a person

Tap + and fill in:

  • Name.
  • Relation — free text, such as Aunt, nephew or Emma's friend. It is shown under the name so the household knows who this is.
  • Who can see this — the default for what you record about this person: everyone in the household (children included), adults only, or only you. You can change it on each wish, gift and size later.
  • Link a contact — pick one of the Space's shared contacts to use a name, birthday and address you already have. Add from contacts starts from the contact instead. Tick Create a contact if you want the person added to the shared contacts at the same time.

A birthday that comes from a linked contact is shown on the person's page and is offered as an occasion when you plan a gift.

A person's page

Tap a person to open their page. It shows the current Sizes, the Wishes, and, for Premium households, the Gifts that are planned. Each section has its own + and a See all link to the full list.

The line under the name says who sees new entries for this person by default. Use the Edit action to change the name, relation, default visibility, contact link or birthday, and Remove to take a person out of the directory. Removing someone also removes what was recorded about them.

The app bar holds two more actions:

  • Occasions — the occasions this person's gifts can be tied to; see below.
  • Share wishes — a public link to a selection of their wishes, for people outside the household. See Wishes.

Your own page

If you are a household member, you have a page too. Others use it to record your sizes and to plan for you. When you open it, the gifts section is not there: Famn never shows a person the gifts that are meant for them, and does not hint at how many there are. Your sizes and your own wishes are yours to see and edit.

Occasions

An occasion is a date a gift can be tied to: Christmas, Confirmation, a birthday. Open a person's page and tap Occasions in the app bar to see them, add one, edit one or remove one. Two kinds exist:

  • Shared occasions apply to everyone in the household, such as Christmas. They are marked Everyone · shared occasion.
  • Personal occasions belong to one person, such as a confirmation, and are marked Only .

Tick Every year for occasions that repeat. When you plan a gift, the occasion picker suggests the ones coming up first, and offers to create the person's birthday from their contact if it is not an occasion yet. Removing an occasion does not remove the gifts that referred to it; they simply lose the label.

Reminders

Once a day, in the early evening in your household's time zone, Famn sends one notification with the birthdays and occasions in the coming week: Nora's birthday in 3 days, Christmas in 6 days. For a Premium household it also says nothing planned yet next to a person you have not planned a gift for. It never says anything about your own birthday, and never reveals what anyone is getting.

Turn it off or on under Settings → Notifications → People → Birthdays and occasions. It is on by default.

Who sees what

Every wish, gift and size has a Who can see this setting:

SettingWho sees it
Everyone in the householdAll members, children included
Adults in the householdAdults only
Only meNobody else

On top of that, one rule never bends: the person a gift is for never sees it, whatever you choose. The same goes for who has taken on a wish. This is what lets the household plan presents in the open without spoiling the surprise.

Tips

  • Link the contact. A birthday you already have becomes an occasion and a reminder without typing it again.
  • Set the default visibility once. For a child, Adults in the household keeps the surprises safe; for a grandparent, Everyone lets the children join in.
  • Add the relation. "Emma's friend" is what the household needs to know at the toy shop.
