Vehicles
Cars, Caravans and Trailers for the Whole Family
The family's cars, caravans and trailers — with the paperwork that follows them.
Vehicles in Famn gives the whole household the same picture: what you have, its key numbers, when the next inspection is due, what the car can tow, and where the service receipts went.
Adding a Vehicle
The fast way is by registration number:
- Go to More → Holdings, tap Add and choose Vehicle
- Enter the registration number and tap Look up
- Famn fetches the vehicle from the registry — car, caravan or trailer, it figures out which
- Check the details, correct anything that's wrong, and tap Add to household
Nothing is saved until you approve — if it's the wrong vehicle, just Discard and the lookup is forgotten.
No registration number? Choose Add manually for unregistered vehicles — a boat trailer, an old moped, the ATV at the cabin. Only a name is required, something you'll recognize like "Family car" or "Boat trailer".
The Vehicle Page
Each vehicle has its own page with a cover photo and:
- Key details from the registry — for cars: seats, odometer, payload, permitted total mass and max braked trailer; for caravans: berths, weights and length; for trailers: brakes, weights, length and load bed size
- What can this car tow? — see below
- Needs looking after — the vehicle's maintenance tasks
- Documents and receipts — receipts, service records and insurance papers belong here
Tap Edit details to maintain the things the registry can't know:
- Cars: last and next roadworthiness test (EU-kontroll), odometer
- Caravans: last damp test and gas test
- Trailers: last inspection, tyre year, and whether it has brakes
- All: name, purchase price, and known faults
The technical registry data — weights and limits — stays as the registry states it, so your towing checks rest on real numbers.
What Can This Car Tow?
Open a car and Famn checks it against your own caravans and trailers:
- Can be connected — with the margin below the limit
- Too heavy — with how much over the limit it is
- Missing data — when a weight is unknown, or a trailer hasn't stated whether it has brakes (edit the trailer to fix that)
No more guessing at the campsite or in the rental line — the answer is already in your pocket.
Important: Assessed at permitted total mass under Norwegian rules. Load, passengers and licence class are not included — always check the vehicle licence. Towing assessment is available for Norwegian-registered cars.
Maintenance and Inspections
The Needs looking after section works just like for items: tap Add maintenance, describe the task — EU-inspection, service, tyre change — set how often and when it's first due. The task lives in your chores, so anyone in the family can tick it off, and XP applies as usual.
Tip: Put the next roadworthiness test date in Edit details, and create a yearly maintenance task ahead of it — the family gets a chore, not a surprise.
Parked Where?
Vehicles can be parked at your properties: open a home's Parked here tab and choose Park something here. One glance shows whether the caravan is at home or at the cabin. See the Properties guide.
Removing a Vehicle
Sold the car? Open it and choose Remove from household. It stops showing in your list and is no longer parked at any of your homes — but insurance snapshots you've already captured keep their record of it, and you can bring it back if you need to.
Perfect for:
- One shared answer to "when is the EU-kontroll?"
- Knowing before you hook up whether the car–caravan combination is legal
- Service receipts that survive to the day you sell
- Households where more than one person keeps the vehicles running
