To-dos

To-dos are the quick, one-off things: call the dentist, buy a birthday present, return the library books. They live next to Chores under Tasks, but where chores repeat on a schedule, a to-do is done once and disappears.

Both can have a category, an effort level, a due date, an owner and a history, and both count towards SpaceScore.

Your To-do Lists

Open Tasks and tap To-dos. Each card is a list; tap one to open it. Tap + to create a new list: give it a name and an icon, and choose which members it is for. Lists belong to the Space you are in, so a shared Space's lists are visible to everyone there and a private Space's lists only to you.

To rename a list or change its icon, open it and choose Edit; Delete removes the list and everything in it after a confirmation.

Adding To-dos

Inside a list, the Name field at the bottom is always ready. Type and tap Add; the field stays focused so you can add the next one straight away.

Tap a to-do's title to rename it in place. For everything else, open the row's menu () and choose Show advanced options:

  • Description — details or a link.
  • Category — shown as a tag on the row.
  • Effort — how demanding it is, on a scale from 1 to 10.
  • Due Date — set one to get a reminder when it is due.
  • Assign task to — who it belongs to. Assigned members are shown with their colour and get the due date notification.
  • Automatically carry overdue task forward — see Past Due below.

To-dos have no Repeat setting. If you want something to come back every week, make it a chore.

Completing To-dos

Tick the checkbox and the to-do leaves the list. The first one you complete gets a small celebration. If something goes wrong on the way to the server, the to-do comes back so nothing is silently lost.

Past Due

A to-do with a due date that has passed is not forgotten: it moves into a Past due group at the top of the list, marked in red, and shows Past due with its date on the row. The Home screen's chores card shows the same items first.

To deal with one, open its menu () and choose Move to..., then Today, Tomorrow or Pick a date. The to-do moves and leaves the Past due group at once. Only one-off to-dos with a due date can be moved this way.

If you tick Automatically carry overdue task forward on a to-do, it is meant to move itself to the current day after its due day ends, keeping its time. Automatic moving is being switched on gradually; until it is on for your household, use Move to....

Past due is judged in your Space's time zone for shared lists and in your own for personal lists.

History

From the To-dos overview, or inside a list, open the menu and choose History to see what was completed, by whom and when. Skipped occurrences are marked separately.

History is open to everyone. Premium keeps your household's full history; on the free plan the view may be limited to a recent window, and a note in the list tells you when that is the case.

Tips

  • Add first, sort later. The quick-add bar is made for emptying your head; use advanced options only for the to-dos that need a date or an owner.
  • Give shared to-dos an owner. An assigned to-do shows the member's colour, so it is clear at a glance whose errand it is.
  • Use categories as tags. "Errand", "Call", "Buy" make a long list scannable.
  • Check Past due once a day. Move what still matters; delete what no longer does.
