Getting Started
Sign Up, Sign In & Onboarding
Welcome to Famn — less chaos, more home. This guide walks you through everything from the very first screen: creating your account, signing in, and the short setup flow that gets your household up and running.
The Welcome Screen
The first thing you see when you open Famn is the welcome screen. From here you can:
- Sign In — for existing users returning to their account.
- Sign Up — to create a brand-new Famn account.
- Continue with Google or Continue with Apple — sign in or register using an account you already have (when available).
There's also a light/dark theme toggle in the top corner if you'd like to switch the look before you begin.
Creating an Account (Sign Up)
- On the welcome screen, tap Sign Up.
- A secure sign-up page opens in your browser.
- Enter your email address and choose a password, or pick one of the social options (Google / Apple).
- Confirm your details to create the account.
- You're returned to Famn automatically and taken straight into onboarding.
Famn uses a secure, browser-based sign-in (OAuth). Your password is entered on our hosted login page — never stored inside the app itself — which keeps your credentials safe.
Signing In (Returning Users)
- On the welcome screen, tap Sign In.
- The secure login page opens.
- Enter the email and password you registered with, or use the same social provider (Google / Apple) you signed up with.
- Once confirmed, you're brought back into the app and dropped on your Dashboard.
Famn keeps you signed in between sessions, so you normally only do this once per device.
Sign In with Google or Apple
If you'd rather not manage a separate password, you can use a social login:
- Continue with Google — available on supported devices.
- Continue with Apple — available on iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
Tap the option you prefer and approve the request. The first time you use it, an account is created automatically using the name and email from that provider. On later visits, the same button signs you straight back in.
Tip: Use the same method every time. If you signed up with Google, sign in with Google — switching between methods can create a separate account.
Troubleshooting Sign-In
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| "Login cancelled" | You closed the login page before finishing. Just tap Sign In again. |
| Login error / "wrong state" | A temporary hiccup in the secure handshake. Famn retries automatically; if it persists, close and reopen the app. |
| Wrong account after social login | Make sure you're using the same provider (Google/Apple) you originally signed up with. |
If a problem continues, check your internet connection and try again — the login flow needs to reach our servers.
Onboarding: Setting Up Famn
The first time you sign in, Famn guides you through a short three-step setup. A progress bar at the top shows where you are (1/3, 2/3, 3/3).
Step 1 — Your Profile
Tell Famn who you are:
- First name (required) — how you'll appear to the rest of your household.
- Last name (optional).
- Email — shown only if we don't already have one on file (for example, after some social sign-ups).
Fields autofill from your device where possible. Tap Continue once your name (and email, if asked) are filled in.
Step 2 — Create Your Space
A Space is the shared environment your household works from — lists, chores, calendars, and more all live inside it. Here you set up your first one:
- Choose a Space type — Private, Household, Family, Friends, or Work. Pick the one that best describes your group.
- Name your Space — e.g. "Home", "The Smiths", or "Flat 3B".
Tap Continue to save it. (For a deeper look at Spaces, see the Spaces help article.)
Note: A Private Space is just for you and can't be shared. Choose any other type if you plan to invite family or flatmates.
Step 3 — Free or Premium
The final step introduces Famn Premium, which unlocks:
- Multiple Spaces — keep separate setups (e.g. family and a shared flat).
- Detailed statistics & insights.
- Expanded collaboration — invite more members.
You can either:
- Upgrade to Premium — start a subscription right away (look out for any current offer), or
- Continue Free — Famn confirms your choice, then takes you in. You can always upgrade later from Settings.
A free account includes one Space and everything you need to get started.
After Onboarding
Once you finish, Famn opens your Dashboard — your home base for lists, tasks, and household activity. If you opened the app from a shared link or invitation, you may be taken directly to that content instead.
You only go through onboarding once. From then on, signing in takes you straight to your Dashboard.
Tips for a Smooth Start
- Pick one sign-in method and stick with it to avoid duplicate accounts.
- Choose the right Space type during setup — it shapes how Famn is tuned for your group (it can be changed later in Settings).
- Don't worry about Premium up front. Start free; you can upgrade any time once you've seen what you need.
- Invite your household next. After setup, head to Settings → Spaces to bring everyone into the same Space so lists and chores are shared automatically.
