Documents

The paper drawer has no search field. Famn does. Documents gathers every file your household has attached to something in Famn — the receipt for the sofa, the insurance papers for the house, the service record for the car, the week plan from school — in one place, shared with everyone in your Space and searchable.

Where Documents Come From

Documents belong to the thing they are about, so you upload them there and find them all together afterwards. You can upload from:

  • A property — open the property in Holdings and use the Documents tab.
  • A belonging — open the item and use Photos and receipts.
  • A vehicle — open the vehicle and use Documents and receipts.
  • A shopping trip — open the trip under Insights and choose Upload receipt.
  • A storage item — the item's photo (see Storage Lists).

Tap the upload icon and choose Camera, Gallery or File. You can pick several files at once. A progress sheet shows each file, a green check when it is safely stored, and the category Famn detected for it. Photos taken with the camera are reduced in size before upload; files such as PDFs are stored exactly as they are.

The Documents overview itself has no upload button, on purpose: a document always has a home.

The Documents Overview

Open More and tap Documents (under Home). The list shows every document in your active Space, newest first, with:

  • a thumbnail or a file icon,
  • the file name,
  • the category Famn assigned (receipt, manual, insurance, and so on),
  • any labels, and
  • the date it was added and the file size.

Switch Space to see that household's documents instead. Pull down to refresh; scroll to load more.

Searching

Type in Search Documents... and submit. Famn searches the text of your documents, including text it has read from scanned pages and photos, so "husforsikring" finds the insurance policy even if the file is called something else. Tap the ✕ to clear the search.

If nothing matches you will see No documents found. Try adjusting your search or filter criteria.

On a property's Documents tab you can also filter by Category; All Documents shows everything again.

Viewing a Document

Tap a document to open it. The header repeats the file name, category, size, type, date and labels. What you can do depends on the file:

  • PDF — page through, pinch or double-tap to zoom, and tap once to hide the controls. Password-protected files ask for the password. If you arrived from a search, your search term is highlighted inside the document.
  • Images — pinch to zoom, double-tap to reset, tap to go full screen.
  • Video — play, pause and scrub; double-tap for full screen.
  • Text — shown as readable, selectable text.
  • Other file types — Famn cannot preview these; use Open document to open them in another app.

From the menu in the top-right corner you can Open externally in another app on your device, or Delete the document. Deleting asks you to confirm and cannot be undone.

Renaming a document, changing its category or labels, and moving it to another property or item are not available yet.

Household Storage

Documents are available on Free and Premium. What is limited is space: every file counts towards your household's storage quota, which you can check under More → Spaces → your Space → Space Storage. The bar shows how much is used of the total.

When storage is getting full, Famn tells you once with Storage is getting full, and when it is full, uploads stop with The household's storage is full. Free up space or upgrade your plan to keep uploading. Delete documents you no longer need, or upgrade to Premium for more room. The Space owner can change the storage plan from the same screen.

Tips

  • Photograph the receipt on the way out of the shop. Open the trip under Insights and upload it while it is still in your hand.
  • Let the category do the filing. Famn reads the document and picks a category for you, so you rarely need to organise anything by hand.
  • Search for what is in the document, not what it is called. A photo of a warranty card is found by the product name printed on it.
  • Keep the Space in mind. Documents belong to the Space you uploaded them in; the cabin's contract lives in the cabin's Space.
