Calendar & Events

The Calendar keeps your household's plans in one place. Create multiple calendars within a Space, add one-off or repeating events, control who can see and edit each calendar, and see your events, chores, and planned meals together on a single day view.

Looking to connect an outside calendar (Google, Apple, etc.) via CalDAV? See the Calendar & Contacts Sync article — this guide covers the in-app calendar itself.

The Calendar View

The main screen shows a month grid. Days with something planned show small colored dots, matching the color of the calendar each item belongs to.

  • Use Previous month / Next month to navigate, or tap Today to jump back.
  • Tap any date to open its agenda for that day.

The Day Agenda

Tapping a date shows everything happening that day, grouped into sections:

  • Calendars Events — events from your calendars.
  • Tasks and Chores — anything due that day from your task and chore lists.
  • Meal Planner — meals planned for that day.

This gives you a single, shared picture of the day for the whole household.

Filtering Calendars

If you have several calendars, tap the calendar filter to switch between All calendars (the default) and any single calendar. Each calendar is listed with its color.

Creating an Event

  1. Tap Create event (or the + on the day's agenda).
  2. Fill in the details (below).
  3. Save.

Event Fields

FieldDescription
TitleThe event name (required).
DescriptionOptional notes.
CalendarWhich calendar it belongs to (shown when you have more than one you can write to).
All dayToggle on for all-day events; this hides the time pickers.
Start / EndStart and end dates, plus times for timed events. The end must be after the start.
RepeatSet a recurring schedule (see below).
LocationAn address, with suggestions as you type and a map on the event page.

Handy shortcuts when picking times: quick-start chips (9am, 12pm, 6pm…) and quick-duration chips (30m, 1h, 2h…).

An event takes its color from the calendar it belongs to.

Repeating Events

Open Repeat to make an event recur. You can choose:

  • Frequency — Daily, Weekly, Bi-weekly, Monthly, Yearly, Weekdays, or a custom rule (and "Never" for a one-off).
  • Days of the week for weekly patterns.
  • How long it repeats — a set number of times, until a specific end date, or indefinitely.
  • Exception dates — specific dates to skip (e.g. a holiday), entered as a comma-separated list like 2026-03-10, 2026-03-17.

On the event page, recurring events show a plain-language summary (for example, "Every week on Monday, Wednesday, Friday"). When you open a single occurrence, it's labelled Selected occurrence with that date.

Viewing, Editing & Deleting

Open an event to see its schedule, location (with a map if set), calendar, and recurrence. From there:

  • Update event — edit any detail.
  • Delete — remove it (you'll be asked to confirm).

Events in a read-only calendar can't be edited or deleted — your access depends on your permission for that calendar (see below).

Quick Actions

From the calendar you can also jump straight into creating related items for the selected day:

  • Chore — add a chore.
  • To do — add a to-do.
  • Add meal — plan a meal.

These appear in the Calendar's day view alongside events, so planning the day happens in one place.

Managing Calendars

Open Calendar admin to manage the calendars in your Space. Each calendar is listed with its color, name, and a summary.

Creating a Calendar

Tap Create calendar and set:

  • Name (required) and an optional description.
  • Color — its visual identifier across the app.
  • Visibility:
    • Private — only you can see it.
    • Space — everyone in the Space can see it (default).
    • Public — visible beyond the Space.

You can Edit or Delete a calendar from its detail page (deleting asks for confirmation).

Calendar Notifications

Each calendar has its own notification settings. From the calendar's detail page you can enable notifications, mute the calendar entirely, or mute it until a chosen date and time.

Sharing & Permissions

Calendars can be shared with individual Space members, each with their own level of access. On a calendar's detail page, open Permissions and tap Add permission to choose a member and set their role:

RoleWhat they can do
OwnerFull control of the calendar.
EditorCreate and edit events.
ReaderView events only.
Free/BusySee only that times are busy, not the details.

Two extra toggles fine-tune access:

  • Can manage settings — edit the calendar's name, color, and other settings.
  • Can manage sharing — add or remove other members' access.

You can edit or remove a member's permission at any time from the same screen. Members who already have access can't be added twice.

How the Calendar Connects to the Rest of Famn

  • ← Tasks & Chores — items with a due date appear on the relevant day's agenda.
  • ← Meal Planner — planned meals show up on their day alongside events.
  • → Your Space — calendars, events, and permissions are all scoped to your Space and its members.

Tips

  • Use a color per calendar (e.g. a calendar each for work, family, and kids) so the month grid is readable at a glance.
  • Keep sensitive plans on a Private or Free/Busy calendar when you want others to see availability but not details.
  • Set exception dates instead of deleting individual occurrences when a repeating event skips a week.
  • Check the day agenda each morning — it's the one view that combines events, chores, and meals for the whole household.
